Umina United Soccer Club – Club Code of Conduct

Umina United Soccer Club members shall adopt the following codes of behaviour for players, coaches, spectators and parents.

Players

Play by the rules of the game.

Never argue with an Official. If you disagree with a decision of an Official, request your captain, coach, manager or Committee Member to approach the Official at a convenient time.

Avoid using derogatory or abusive language of any sort. Verbal abuse of officials is not acceptable. Pride yourself on working equally hard for yourself and for the team.

Treat all players as you would like to be treated.

Coaches

Be reasonable with your demands on young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.

Teach the players that the rules of soccer are mutual agreements which should not be evaded or broken.

Avoid over-playing the talented players and devote equal time to all players.

Consider the maturity level of players when scheduling practice time and competition.

Do not ridicule or yell at young players for making mistakes or losing a match.

Develop team respect for the ability of opponents as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.

Make a personal commitment to keep informed about sound coaching principles.

Avoid using derogatory or abusive language.

Spectators

Respect the Officials (including cadet referees and club volunteers).

If there is a disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure for redress and teach the players to do likewise.

Condemn the use of violence by spectators, coaches, players or officials.

Encourage players to follow the rules and decisions of officials.

Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul or abusive language; and refrain from harassing players, coaches or officials.

Be positive in comments on player ability – do not ridicule or belittle players, coaches or officials.

Applaud good performance and efforts from both teams, regardless of outcomes.

Moderate the consumption of alcohol at senior games and do not consume alcohol at junior games.

Parents

Encourage children to participate and play by the rules.

Do not ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.

Lead by example.

If you disagree with the decision of an Official, raise the issue through the appropriate channel.

Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse.

Avoid using derogatory or abusive language.

Social media

Umina United Soccer Club members are not to use derogatory language or make derogatory comments towards other players, teams, clubs, or others who may be offended by such comments. If in doubt – leave it out!
